HRD Heads

When the Araneta Group decided to “professionalize” its management in 2000, Louie W. Limgenco (LWL) was hired from SGV as the Vice President for HR. He was handling all the HR concerns of Progressive Development Corporation, Araneta Center Inc. and UNIPROM Inc.. The HR of Philippine Pizza Inc. was headed by Janet M. Solsoloy (JMS).

In 2004, Belen Layno (BL) was hired supposedly to assist LWL. But JLA (Jorge L. Araneta) decided to organize a separate HR to focus on the concerns for ACI. Based on the Table of Organization, BL was supposed to be under LWL, but BL was reporting directly to JLA and TRA (Teddy R. Asuncion, the President of ACI). Parang demotion kay LWL???

Eventually, LWL submitted his resignation (siguro sa sama ng loob???). Syanga pala, bakit kaya hanggang ngayon, di pa nakukuha ni LWL ang kanyang terminal pay?

On December 2004, BL took a FORCED LEAVE. Bakit kaya? On January 2005, JLA sent a memo to the employees of ACI that JMS will take over the HRD. (Parang hindi yata ito alam ni Lars Peterson, the COO of Pizza Hut).

Sa ngayon, JMS is still on top of HRD of the whole Araneta Group.

Sa pamumuno ni JMS, ano ang masasabi mo bilang employee ng Araneta Center?

  1. she’s the reason kung bakit wala na kami doon… at tinanggal nya kami during the height of our careers. nasayang ang 5.5 years ko with the company because of her HR masterplan. kaya dun sa mga displaced employees gaya namin… mag call center/ BPO na lang kayo… ambilis ng asenso!

  6. You are asking about the way Mrs. Janet Ruth M. Solsoloy is handling the employees of Araneta? Well, GRABEEEE!!!!!!!!!! If there will only be a survey, she will be the number 1 most-hated officer of the Araneta Group. I would say she is inhumane, judgmental and biased because she plays favorites. She has dismissed a lot of employees whom she does not like. She badmouths, saying things unbecoming of a manager and she should not be in her place now as SVP-HRD. I suggest she should enroll in John Roberts Powers for Personality Development.

    HRD rates the employees based on their performances. But if the employees were to rate the SVP-HRD, she will flank! She does not even know the correct procedure in hiring and dismissing an employee. Gumagawa siya ng sarili niyang batas. Merong isang hinire na dating CSC tapos natransfer na meter reader. On probationary na siya pero after her proby period hindi pinirmahan ni Great Mrs. Solsoloy yung Personnel Action Form niya from proby to permanent dahil hindi naman daw siya Engineer at hindi siya bagay sa kumpanyang ito at iba pang masasakit na salita. If you could only hear her remarks when she is in bad mood, you would think that she is not that educated and well-bred. I am sure several condemned employees have cursed her.

    Alam mo ba na pag nasasalubong iyan ng mga empleyado ay para siyang may sakit na ketong na iniiwasan ng lahat. Bakit? Kasi lahat napapansin niyan simula sa sapatos hanggang sa pananamit mo. She has a ready comment on what you are wearing. Pangit daw! E iyon lang ang kayang bilhin ng empleyado sa LIIT po ng sweldo. Malaki pa siguro ang sinusweldo ng Shoemart salesladies. Ang uniform dati 5 pcs. blouse ginawang 4 pcs. na lang sa mga babae. Sa lalaki naman 3 ang pants at salamat naman 5 ang polo. Ang palda 3 at ang blazer 1sa lang. Magastos sa sabon at koryente dahil maglalaba pa at magpaplantsa pa ang mga empleyado. At bago magpalit ng bagong uniform na dapat taon-taon ginagawa ay inaabot ng dalawang taon bago palitan kaya lumang-luma na at halos gutay gutay na sa dami ng nisnis ang uniform, kaya mukha ng gusgusin ang mga empleyado. In short, tinipid ang mga empleyado. Nakakahiya, naturingan pa namang nagtatrabaho sa ARANETA CENTER kung saan nandoon ang NO OTHER MALL IN THE WORLD na GATEWAY MALL.

    I tell you our HRD is not aimed in keeping their employees but in removing employees, especially the old, faithful ones. Like in the case of ISTD, overmanpower daw kaya mahigit kalahati ang tinanggal na staff. Imagine sa katipiran, pati yung head ay tinanggal dahil sa sulsol ng ewan ko ba kung sino?? Hulaan niyo kaya?? Kaya ngayon sa dami ng nasisirang computers, hilung-hilo na ang 3 na lang yatang technicians kung sino ang uunahin sa buong Araneta Center, comprising of Ali Mall, Gateway, Farmers Plaza, Farmers Market, Aurora Tower, Bb. Pilipinas, TicketNet, Uniprom, at iba pang building sa Araneta Center. Poor guys!!! May isa na ngang nagresign sa kanila dahil hindi na niya kaya. Tapos ngayon marami silang kinuhang mga bago na mag-uumpisa na naman sa maliit na sweldo.

    Di nga namin maintindihan ang prinsipyo ng PMS kasi may lumalabas na palagi kaming may utang samantalang napagtrabahuhan na namin yun. Ginagawa nilang advance bonus pag December at binabawas pagkatapos ng halos isang taon. Kaya ang pasko ng taga ARANETA ay paskong tuyo. Dati rati may hamon ngayon niraraffle nalang ang hamon at quezo de bola. Kaya wala ng gana umattend kami sa Christmas Party.

    Hindi rin namin maintindihan kung bakit nagtitipid ng husto samatalang umaasenso naman ang ARANETA. Pag may concert ang daming tao sa center at sa mga restaurants. Sa parking lot ang laki ng kita kada buwan, halos million ang kita. Visit Gateway Mall. Almost everyday, you will see a lot of people frequenting the area.

    Nakakuha rin ng refund sa MERALCO ng ilang million, bakit hindi man lang mabahagi sa mga empleyado kahit ilang percent man lang sa pamamagitan ng bonus o PMS. Alam nyo ba na 2005 PMS ay hindi parin nabibigay? Kung ibigay man yun marami paring umiiyak dahil marami ang walang natatanggap dahil sa computation nila na sila lang ang nakakaintindi.

    Sana tanggalin na ang SATURDAY WORK naming dahil dagdag gastos pa yun. Halos wala ka naman matapos na trabaho dahil tatlong oras lang yun. Dati yun ang nilalaang araw ng mga misis sa pagdala ng kanilang mga anak sa doctor para ipacheck-up. Kaya ang nangyayari dala dala ng mga misis ang kanilang mga anak sa opisina.. O diba? ang saya! Naging DAY CARE CENTER ang ARANETA Offices.

    sino ba yun mga natira sa grupo nila? ah yun mga microsoft certified DAW. totoo ba? o may leakage na lumabas kaya yun ibang walang alam talaga nag karoon at pumasa sa exams?

    balita ko pa nga may isa dun sa kanila nag VL pa para lang aralin yun leakage test. oo naman possibleng makakuha ng leakage test kasi yun pinaka HEAD DAW nila ngayon e galing training center. hindi malayong mangyari nga yun.

    paano na nila i- a apply yan certification nila if puro pandurugas lang kaya sila nakakuha ng ganun certification. aba aba. hindi tama yan. unfair para dun sa mga naalis na may KARAPATAN mag stay sa kumpanya.

    paano naman hindi mahihilo yun 3 technician na natira e isa lang ang may alam dun. yun 2…saan ba galing bago maging tech support? yun isa secretary…mantakin mo…sya pa ang napiling matira….baket? malakas ata dun sa head na punong puno ng certificationsss…

    sa ganitong lipunan sana patas lang kayo makipag laban.
    walang lokohan. oo naman pala nakalimutan ko. mga sarili nyo ang una nyong niloloko.

  10. totoy bato. tama ka dyan. hindi lang sa istd nangyari yan. pati sa marketing. napakalupet talaga nyan si grace magno. pati yun walang kalaban laban na asawa ng isang taga hrd e pinatulan at pinag initan kaya natanggal at walang increase na natanggap. napaka sama talaga ng pamumuno sa araneta. hindi ko lubos maisip pagkatapos gawin lahat ng empleyado ang lahat ng makakaya nila para umunlad ang kumpanyang araneta eto pa ang igaganti nila sa mga taong nag hirap at nag malasakit.

  12. I think it is unfair to put all the blame of the Araneta rot to Janet Solsoloy. You have to remember na tau-tauhan rin lang siya. As the saying goes, the buck stops somewhere else. You cannot divorce the running of the company from the policies of the owners.

    Many of the good people who worked there like LWL and TRA had to suffer the humiliation of being blamed for introducing such concepts as the PMS. But then they are powerless as they do not hold the power of the purse. I presume they left the company with some pain inside – after all they are educated and well-bred people who had to live up with some feudal-minded sixth-rate boss.

    The power to change the rotten system will no longer lie in powerless individuals – you guys must learn to deal with the puppeteer not the puppets and this can 0nly be done by organizing yourselves against him. There is power in numbers, because if you raise legitimate issues alangan namang tatanggalin niya kayong lahat not to mention the bad publicity that will further damage his already somewhat damaged image in the business community – not to mention the image of the future presidentiable.

FYI po.Lahat ng nag resigned ng 2004 at 2005 na empleyado na may PMS(advances) ay di pa nila nakukuha ang kanilang mga terminal pay hanggang ngayon, kahit approve na yung PMS ng 2003(nilabas to as a bonus last Aug or Sept 05) at 2004 (bonus last Dec06)…e2 yung list ng mga top officials ng Araneta Center na nag resigned last year lang na di pa rin nakukuha yung terminal pay dahil Pinahold daw ni JMS accdg kay Errol Dador at ang dahilan kung bakit pina-hold este di na pala ibibigay dahil hindi na daw sila connected sa Araneta nung nilabas yung bonus…Teddy Asuncion (president-sumama ang loob kay jla kya nagresign), Louie Limgenco (VP-HR sama din ng loob yata ang dahilan ng resignation), Danilo Q.Tancangco (VP-ISTD na dinemote muna para maforce na magresign),Raul R.Anonuevo (Vp-Purchasing), Belen Layno (force resignation to mga pre)…kung tutuusin nga kasama pa yung kanilang 13th month or other benefits na hindi pa rin naibibigay sa kanila…madami din ang nagresign (dahil gusto nilang magkaroon ng future, ayaw kc nila mawasak ang kinabukasan ng kanilang pamilya dahil sa Araneta) ta tinanggal sa Araneta Center last year…Siguro panahon na para maipalabas sa media to..eto po ang suggestion ko…BITAG (tulfo brothers), Isang tawag ka lang (CH2), Imbestigador (CH7)..ano sa tingin nio???

  18. yung medical allowance dapat ibalik yan dahil marami ng namatay na empleyado dahil walang pambili ng gamot …na kailangan ng maintenance para mabuhay….tutal nagkasakit naman dahil sa nervious at paglilikod sa araneta na bulaklak lang ang kapalit ng paglilingkod mo sa kanila ng buong puso at katapatan!!!!!

    at akala ko b ang saturday work aytemporary lang bakit tuloy tuloy na dapat tanungin natin sa labor kung tama ba na tangalin ang benefits na dati nating natatangap.

Well, look into the mirror man! Perhaps that’s why you belong to the bottom half of this company because people doesn’t respect you, same manner you don’t know how to give it back.     But hey Pal, I empathized with your sentiments towards the company. I didn’t say those to insult you, same way you did. But then, I’m trying to help you see that what you are doing is not going to help either you & the people you’re pertaining to. Maybe it’ll make you feel good to splurge all your heartaches, tactlessly & rudely. But nonetheless, not in this manner that you’re just bringing down people, speaking your mind, yet you don’t know the real story behind these “successful ones”… Somehow I can say that you’re acting childish.     siya na mismo ang gumawa ng mga puna niya. At usap-usapan
    din ngayon na kaya siya na mismo ang gumagawa ng paraan na

    ginagawa niya – mababa o mataas man ang posisyon.

    confusion and chaos in the company. And this is not good for the Aranetas, the company, and the people trying to

  29. tama… huwag na tayong mag-away-away kung iisa rin lang naman ang ating mga saloobin at layunin. our voices may not topple down the empire called ACI, but somehow it would serve as the medium of arwareness to all government or legal entities, and for them to probe deeper on the matter (and let them do the drastic changes, unless di pa sila nabibili ni kamote).

    i agree with empleyado.com’s proposal to petition this matter to the media (as per post #13 of this thread). so if the still tenured employees wont come out of the woodwork, then let the resigned/ displaced employees voice it out to the orgs or people concerned since di naman na tayong kayang habulin pa ng ACI management, unless may mga inaasahan pa kayong mga backpay (na sana naman ay bayaran na).

    to get back to the topic… during my formative years, i think LWL is the only HR Head that really rocks! okay sya pagdating benefits (espcially medicines), tranining, atbp. on the other hand, when BBL took office, all the bad things likely to happen within the next 2 years suddenly went into shape.

    remember? the demotions on some HR officers personnel? they were replaced by BBL’s own private army. after her very short term as HR Head, she was sacked, and then her handpicked staff and officers follow suit. e sino ba ang nag-upo sa kanya sa pwesto in the first place? di ba she was from KFC before? in the global market KFC is in association with Pizza Hut ‘coz they are the spawned companies of PepsiCo. so syempre kung ikaw ay HR Head dati ng KFC, e sino pa ba ang magrereto sa’yo kundi HR Head ng Pizza Hut, di ba?

    pero gaya nga ng napag-uusapan namin dati sa loob ng department, after BBL was forced to resign… “isinalang na nga kami sa kawali noong term ni Layno, ngayong wala na sya… direkta na tayong ii-ihaw sa apoy!” and that fire is called… Solsoloy. and so she did.

    she may have sacked us, but i’m quite happy with my new career now. kaka-regular ko lang. there’s more growth in my new line of work, and the management do care for it’s entry level employees. not to mention the working environment is very invigorating, fresh, and professional. i have 19 to 21 year-old co-workers, a 23 year-old for a manager and a 31 year old for an account operations director (kasing-age ko lang halos). ambilis pala ng asenso pag nag-call center ka. kung dun na lang ako nag-umpisa, malamang operations director na rin ako at di nasayang ang limang taong pag-stay ko sa ACI. the pay i earned during those five years e basic pay ko lang ngayon as entry level position. tsk… tsk…

    ayusin ang salary scale…..increase the salary yung di naman nakaka demoralize at yung pms give that on time … ang employer ang may utang sa employees nya ….. let the rank and file and supervisor rate there BOSS! u can use that as the basis of your promotion and salary increase! yung medicine benefits ibalik sa dati kawawa naman yung may sakit na walang pambili nagkasakit naman sila sa paglilingkod sa company at yung saturday tangalin na pwede naman skeletal …magastos na… wala ng time sa pamilya at gawain bahay di naman mayaman ang empleyado na lahat may pambayad ng katulong sayang din pangkain din yun sir!

  34. You are so right programmer 3. When I left the company after more than 5 years of service. When I resigned sinabihan akong may utang pa ako because of the “PMS Advances”.

    I transferred to a very good company which unfortunately I had to leave due to better opportunities. When I resigned after a year of service, they paid me all my bonuses and leaves – ang bonus performance based din. They gave my bonus even though I was no longer with them. All in all I got a six figure package just for working one year with the company and the six – figure amount I got was more than the retirement pay that some people there get after working for 20 to 30 years. Sad.

  43. Basically, the root cause of this demoralization is the way the human resource department, particularly the human resource head manages people in the organization.

    The HR department is the sole department who is responsible in the recruitment and selection process. If the said aspect of HR is functioning well, non of this will happen. The process of accepting new workforce, we should consider if the personality & ability of the applicant fits with the vacant position. It is not a matter of filling-up the said position, without considering that said 2 factor, we are helping the organization to achieve its goal. At the same time, we are in one way or the other demoralizing the existing people in the organization. Why? Because, no consideration was given as to how the new & old mix harmoniously together, that leads to conflict & confusion.

    Another way of saying the possibility of the non-existence of “Personality-Job Fit” and “Ability-Job Fit” to the HR staff, more so the HR Head. With this at hand, how can she manage the workforce effectively & efficiently if she cannot empathize with her role, her role to all people in the organization?

    Over & above, update your financial compensation as well as your non-financial compensation. These are some critical points to consider letting your people feel that you are treating them as an asset & not just an expense by way of giving their salaries.

  47. wala akong masabi sa kanya!!!
    hindi yata tao yan, walang puso, walang pakiramdam, manhid at maltreatment, hindi s’ya dapat sa HR, inhumane, ‘yan ang natatanggap namin sa kanya puro panglalait lang! image concious pa, ang ganda n’ya yata, eh!!! o ikaw lang yata ang maganda sa paningin mo, pwede ka na sa Binibining Pilipinas, don ka na lang kaya?! tanggap ka na doon t’yak, ka rubbing elbows mo pa ang mga tulad mong magaganda, elitista at nasa alta de sociedad, bongga na ang career mo, di ba?!

  48. nais ko lamang malaman kung ano ba ang mga kasalukuyang posisyon ng mga taong ito sa ISTD: clemor, reynald reynaldo, lance, eric. nais ko lamang maunnawaan kung bakit ganyan na lamang ang inyong pagkamuhi sa mga taong ito. ako’y minsan ring naging ulila sa kumpanya ni araneta ngunit malugod ako ngayon na tama ang naking naging desisyon na lumisan.
